Actualizaciones de programas interesantes IX /Novato

Optaba entrega de actualizaciones de programas interesantes para Ubuntu. Como siempre os enlazo las entregas anteriores para tenerlo todo a mano: Tomo VIII,  Tomo VII, Tomo VI, Tomo V, Tomo IV, Tomo III, Tomo II, Tomo I.

En esta entrega voy a hablar de programas tan variados como VirtualBox, Pidgin y Fotoxx. 

Como ya sabréis, VirtualBox es uno de los mejores emuladores de sistemas operativos. Te permite "instalar" un sistema operativo dentro de otro. De esta forma podemos probar nuevas distribuciones sin necesidad de estar particionando el disco duro o sin el riesgo de romper el grub.

Por otro lado tenemos la actualización del cliente de mensajeria Pidgin. Pidgin es uno de los clientes de mensajería que más me gusta. En mi opinión supera con creces a Amsn (que por cierto hace años que no se actualiza...) y tiene una interface gráfica increíble.

Y por último, tenemos al editor de imágenes  Fotoxx, un editor no tan potente como puede ser Gimp, pero mucho más sencillo de usar, y la verdad es que para cosas más o menos básicas, se agradece. ¡Comenzamos!

VirtualBox 4.1.10

Que puedo decir ya de VirtualBox que no sepáis. Sencillo, practico, útil... Probar nuevos sistemas operativos nunca fue tan fácil. Además, al coger ciertos drivers de tu distribución, no hace falta que instales los drivers de tu tarjeta gráfica, wifi, etc en el sistema operativo de VirtualBox, VirtualBox directamente usa los de tu distribución.

La lista de cambios es la siguiente:

• GUI: if 3D support on the host is not available for some reason, do not only disable this VM setting but also uncheck the checkbox

¿Creo que vale la pena actualizarlo no? Para instalar VirtualBox 4.1.10 en Ubuntu debemos descargar los paquetes .deb necesarios desde la web oficial de VirtualBox

De todas formas aquí os dejo los paquetes para que los descargéis tan solo eligiendo el correspondiente a vuestra versión de Ubuntu:

Pidgin 2.10.2

Nueva actualización de Pidgin para Ubuntu 11.10. Pidgin dejo de ser el cliente de mensajería predeterminado en Ubuntu hace unas cuantas versiones ya que fue sustituido por Empathy. De todas formas el proyecto Pidgin sigue vivo, y aunque en los repositorios de Ubuntu se encuentra la versión 2.10.0, la última versión estable de Pidgin para Ubuntu es la 2.10.2.

La lista de cambios de dicha versión es la siguiente:

• Windows-Specific Changes:
  • Fix the installer downloading of spell-checking dictionaries (#14612)

  • The autoaccept plugin will no longer reset the preference for unknown buddies to “Auto Reject” in certain cases. (#14964)

En la página oficial de Pidgin, te explican como actualizar tu versión de Pidgin añadiendo su repositorio oficial para Ubuntu. Yo en este caso he preferido comentarios como instalar Pidgin con un paquete .deb desde aquí.

Fotoxx 12.03.2

Ya por último, comentar la última actualización del proyecto Fotoxx. En este caso se actualiza a la versión 12.03.2. La lista de cambios es la siguiente:

Select Area / Finish crash in cairo. This is apparently a new problem in gtk3/cairo which affects some distros (but not the current Ubuntu).
Fotoxx source code was changed to avoid the problem (remove calls to gdk_flush()).  This can make Fotoxx appear to “freeze” during Select Area / Finish.

Para instalar esta última versión de Fotoxx, debemos descargar el paquete .deb correspondiente a la arquitectura de nuestro procesador. Estos paquetes solo se pueden instalar en versiones superiores a Ubuntu 11.04:

-fotoxx-12.03.2-x86_64.deb

Como veis, en esta ocasión os he traído todos los programas en .deb para que no tengáis que estar añadiendo repositorios (sobre todo para los más novatos). Un saludo
